According to the ASEAN Tourism Marketing Strategy 2012 – 2015 report, ASEAN tourism industry for 2009/2010 had an insignificant growth of 12.29%, a total received of 73 millions of international visitors. With the economics development and joints efforts of the ASEAN members, the tourism industry is expected to grow and achieve a total of 92 millions and 107 millions international visitors by 2013 and 2015 respectively.

However, one of the global social forces that constantly affect the tourism industry is the terrorism, social unrest and natural disasters in the region. Among these, the Bali, Jakarta, Mumbai bombings and the protests in Thailand had the most devastating and direct impact on the hotel industry.
